Only difference between the 2.0 GTI and 2.0 Golf is that the GTI has rear disks. Other Golfs may not have some of the features found in the 2.0 GTI, and some may have more (ie WE Golfs have power windows and most 2.0 GTI's do not). As far as suspension (chassis) and drivetrain though, all the cars are identical except for the rear disks.

Nope. GTI is the front wheel drive performance variant of the golf. It does come with quite a bit more standard. That means (in current generations) that it comes with a more powerful 2.0T, sport tuned suspension, louder exhaust, bigger wheels and tires, etc. Also, GTI itself stands for Grand Tourer Injection (from Italian Gran Turismo Iniezione).
